Organisations in animal breeding

The breeding of ass, horses, cattle, pigs, sheep and goats in Germany is legally regulated by the National Breeding Act and respective regulations. The national legislation relates in particular to the performance and documentation of breeding and breeding animals. It regulates performance testing in the mandatory breeding programs.

In addition, the Animal Breeding Act contains provisions on the implementation and application of biotechnical measures in the field of insemination and embryo transfer.

The implementation of the law is in the responsibility of the federal states, as the recognition and control of organisations active in animal breeding. Animal breeding organizations include breed societies, breeding operations, as well as insemination stations and embryo transfer facilities. Thus, the breeding programs are subject to the recognition procedure.
