Domestic animals

The following tables give an overview about all farm animals bred in Germany. With the help of sort and filter you have the chance to select breeds from the species. You can also download a table or print it.
Via the species tables you get to the detail view of the breeds. Here, Germany’s indigenous breeds are described according to the following scheme:

Breeding

list of the breeders’ associations officially registered with the authorities of the Bundeslaender as well as of the species / breed umbrella organisations and breeding organisations

Origin and distribution

origin, regional focus and distribution of the breed in Germany

Performance

performance and utilisation of the breed, e.g. milk yield, daily weight gain or wool yield

Characterisation

phenotype of the breed, e.g. size, weight and colour

Development

The live stock numbers of male and female herd-book animals of the breeds have been documented in TGRDEU since 1997. They are the basis for the calculation of the effective population size which serves to determine the endangerment status of the indigenous breeds.

Cryoreserve

In case there is information available, the size and the institution which keeps a cryoreserve is listed.

Endangerment status
