Central Documentation on Animal Genetic Resources in Germany TGRDEU
Welcome to the Central Documentation on Animal Genetic Resources in Germany (TGRDEU). TGRDEU is hosted by the Information and Coordination Centre for Biological Diversity at the Federal Office for Agriculture and Food on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture.
The following websites provide a variety of information on farm animal breeds bred in Germany of the species horse, cattle, water buffalo, pig, sheep and goat as well as poultry and rabbit
Furthermore, TGRDEU lists the herd book numbers which have been gathered and documented since 1997. The data is used for the assessment of the development of animal genetic resources in Germany. The National Committee on Animal Genetic Resources is taking the data into consideration for its decision on the endangerment status of the farm animal breeds. The breeds are classified into different categories of endangerment. The classification is regularly updated and published as “Red List of Indigenous Farm Animal Breeds in Germany”
Breeding of farm animals of the species horse, cattle, water buffalo, pig, sheep and goat is regulated by the German Animal Breeding Act. You will find the respective information on approved breeders’ organisations and associations as well as artificial insemination centres and embryo collection and production centres in TGRDEU
